How to Become an IRS Agent

Do you love to work with numbers and possibly file your own taxes? If you have an interest in a career as an IRS agent, you may need to be interested in accounting and law. There are a few ways to open the doors into the career development to be an IRS agent. Let us take a look at some of them.

There may be technical institutes that will train you in the area of becoming familiar with accounting and tax laws. IRS agents have to pursue a college education. After achievement of being a college graduate, with at least 30 hours of accounting courses, one could possible be hired in an entry-level position. If there is not much interested in an entry-level position, then having had a career as a professional accountant another way to apply for advanced positions. Another plus to working as an IRS agent, besides being able to do your own taxes is also having experience and networking with others in the same field of interest and moving up the ladder with more expertise.

Working for the United States Government can provide a lot of benefits, Pay is determined not only Congress but also determined by your location. The vocation of an IRS agent can provide a substantial income and the work environment is a business, however; there may be very long hours involved, especially during tax season. There may be a broad array of background checks and clearances needed to become an IRS agent.

Another option is if you are in high school, and excel in area mathematics, and enjoy working with the numerical system as well as problem solving, then perhaps check with your guidance counselor to help guide you towards taking more advanced classes pertaining to this area of study. There may be scholarship and grant opportunities with colleges or the government itself. A guidance counselor with the local high school may have more information on this.

When in search of a position for as a IRS agent, after graduating from an accredited institute, or accumulating extensive accounting experience, you can certainly locate current openings during any tax season and check the government sites on the Internet. If this is your talent, then perhaps the position of an IRS agent is something to work towards. The position of an IRS agent definitely has job security benefits and it is a necessity for the United States. The old saying goes, there are two things you can be certain of in life; one of them is being taxed.
