How to Become a More Responsible Pet Sitter

A reliable pet sitter can be hard to find. Some pet owners spend months trying to find the right person to care for their furry friends. But once you have found a good pet sitter, you will soon know it. They will be professional right off the bat and meet their obligations each time they come by to see your pets. What can you do to become a more responsible pet sitter?

Abide by the Wishes of Pet Owners

Most pet owners want what is best for their pets. As a pet sitter, you should do all you can to respect the wishes of pet owners. That includes medicating sick pets on time each day, preparing an overweight pet's meal according to the owner's specific instructions and spending the allotted time with pets each day.

You may not like the way in which the pet owners spoil their pets or you may disapprove of the brand of food the pets eat, but you should not voice those concerns, unless you have evidence to suggest that the pets are allergic to the food. Under normal circumstances, it is your responsibility to closely abide by the instructions of the pet owners and to take good care of their pets.

Be Diligent in Carrying Out Your Duties

Pet sitting may seem like a way of making easy money for very little effort, but there is more involved in taking care of pets than meets the eye. It is important to be diligent in carrying out all of your responsibilities. Even though the pet owners will not be there to supervise you in your work, you should still act with the same level of industriousness as if they were present, telling you what to do.

Arrive on time each day, make sure the pets have enough fresh food and water to eat and drink and take dogs for a walk, if you have instructed to do so.

Avoid Time Wasters

Time wasters can creep into any job, but even more so with jobs where you are not easily accountable for your actions, such as pet sitting. After all, if you spend half your time with your phone glued to your ear when you should be walking Fluffy, the dog is hardly going to tell his owners, is he? But if you want to become a more responsible pet sitter, you should work hard at your job and cut out time wasters when you are supposed to be working.

Pet sitters should work hard at becoming more responsible and industrious. Responsible pet sitters will be hired again and again, which is why it is best to abide by the wishes of the pet owners, to be diligent in carrying out your duties and to avoid time wasters when you are scheduled to be with the pets.
