How to Become an MRI Operator

The MRI operator is responsible for operating and monitoring diagnostic imaging equipments during examination of patients conducted by the physicians in hospitals, clinics or other health care centers. With the advancement in technology many modern machines are being used in the medical field. These machines need highly qualified and trained technicians to handle the operating. These trained technicians need to provide the health care professionals with information they need to make the accurate diagnosis of the disease. The magnetic resonance imaging technician or MRI operator is one such profession that is highly in demand and the professionals are also paid well

To take up a course in this field the person requires good knowledge of subjects like chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology. The person should also posses a good knowledge of the medical terminology. The person willing to become MRI operator would require college preparation of at least a two-year degree in Radiology technology.

This associate degree would include subjects related to anatomy, patient care procedures and radiation physics. The next step is to seek further education through special training program in MRI technology and procedures. It is always good if you are a licensed radiographer. That increases your chances of getting better employment as a MRI operator.

Certified technicians are known to have a comfortable income in medical field. They can comfortably earn annual income of $46,000 to $64,000. This is one of the fields that has regular business and is not affected by the market economy. Besides the field of medicines gives a person to help those people who are in need of care. It is not that only doctors and nurses can take up this gratifying job. The paramedical services have equal contribution in recovering back the patient from illness.

The MRI operator might need to handle equipments like Fluoroscope, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Equipment, CT scanner, Radio-graphs, Automatic injector, Implantable Defibrillators, Head and knee coils, Head and shoulder braces, Catheter Digital Camera and Computers. It is better if the technician has knowledge of Internet.

The MRI operator is trained for evaluating the radio-graphs, video tape, positioning the patient for examination, operating a fluoroscope, filling automatic injectors, monitoring the video display of body area, starting the filming sequence and reviewing the developed X-Ray quality. With proper training the technician can easily handle all these jobs.

Thus in a highly demanding job, a person with proper training and knowledge of the subject can effectively handle the paramedical job of MRI operator. Where he would be operating the highly developed medical equipments assisting the physicians in the correct diagnosis of the patients' ailments. The job offers good earnings and an opportunity to serve humanity.
