How to Become a Music Master-Mind

Joe Cicalese
Becoming a modern day music database is a simple process. You can become the person all your friends come to when they need to hear some new bands. The price of becoming a music master-mind is free. All you need is some time and a general love and interest for all types of music. Except for country. No one cares about country.

Step One- Go to www.purevolume.com and make an account. Purevolume is fantastic website that is completely free and dedicated to connecting fans with bands and hearing new music. Purevolume has a obscene amount of bands and genres to choose from. Once you make a account you can favorite all your bands, even add individual songs from a multitude of bands to your own personal playlist.

Step Two- Actually listen to these bands. So many people simply skip through the track before really grasping the song for what it is. Focus on the drums, the guitar, the bass, and the vocals all individually. Let everything stand out to you. If you can start listening to music like this, you will hear old songs in a whole new light. All to often when we hear a song we let all these beautiful sounds blend together without giving each the respect it deserves. You'll soon notice the beautiful guitar strokes, the brutal drum beats, and the melodic bass rhytms.

Step Three- Let all your friends know how awesome you are and how much more you know about music than they do. Always claim to have listened to bands way before they were big and before anyone knew who they were (even if you haven't). State that big bands are sell-outs and if you had a band you would never do what they did. A prime example of this is Fall Out Boy. Once a great band with much promise, now a completely "pop" piece of crap.

With these three simple steps you will be the coolest music hipster in town!
