How Can I Become a Mystery Shopper?

Jennifer Hogue
How I learned about mystery shopping was a segment on the world news back in 2004. I have heard the term before that but never thought it was real. after watching the segment I did a search on the computer and found a list of mystery shopping companies for purchase. I think I paid twenty five dollars for it but it really wasn't necessary as I found later on through other computer searches.

To get started and be successful, you first need to have a home computer with an internet connection. Also, having a cell phone helps because sometimes companies need to contact you last minute about a shop you have done or a shop they need done. Other supplies would be printer cartridges, printer paper and/or notebooks for keeping track of the shops. I found a clipboard handy because when you return to your car and need to write notes down about your shop, it helps having a good surface to write on. Other items need would be envelops, stamps, and folders to organize your paperwork.

Once you have everything you need you can get started. What I found was after doing the searches and begining to join the mystery shopping companies, I would keep a mini notebook with all my log in information because I landed up joining a lot of sites and couldn't remember everything thing. After joining many sites I began applying for shops. At first I was nervous but once I completed the first shop I realized it was pretty easy. After completing the shop I made sure I entered the shop on their site before the deadline and then applied for the next shop. I only did one shop at a time at first. But when I realized I was organized and could juggle a couple of shops a day I started doing more and more. This was while I had another job. I then realized I preferred the flexibility I had with doing mystery shopping and working when i wanted to and also could bring my kids on many shops which helped as far as making more money.

Once you find your groove you will realize how easy and fun this business is. The only drawbacks i found was I got shopped out after almost six years and the other drawback was driving in all kinds of weather. I would try to do less in the winter and try to do more in the summer months. There are mystery shops available all over the world and all kinds of shops from simple fast food shops,to banks, to fancy restaurants, amusement park shops, and hotel shops. The amount to be made is endless and if you need a break just don't apply for shops for a week or so and take your break. It's perfect for stay at home moms. So don't be afraid to try it and see if you like it.
