How to Become an Online Tutor

Dee Davis
The internet has made so many things more convenient for us all and has created a world of access. For many, this is a positive thing and why wouldn't it be. With the increase in gas price and the high cost of living; having the option of working from home has its benefits. If you are a stay at home mom, this will allow you to be at home with your child (ren) and also be a bread winner.

It can be challenging working from home and also a balancing act for you and your family, however the same is true for those who choose to work outside the home. The difference is that you are there with your child (ren) and you know exactly. Additionally, working as an online tutor also means you are an independent contractor, therefore you can schedule your hours based on your availability. More importantly, you will be able to save on all the miscellaneous expenses that come with working outside of the home.

There are a few online companies that offer this opportunity and much more. I had to do quite a bit of research to find some of these companies. Their information will be provided below.

First and foremost, do some research to determine which company you would like to work for, because the hiring process and pay rate differs for each of them.

Here is a list of websites for some of the larger online tutoring companies. These include; brainfuse.com (email resume to jobs@brainfuse.com), tutor.com, educationadvancecorp.com (email resume to hr@educationadvancecorp.com), tutorvista.com (apply at jobs@tutorvista.com).

Once you have decided which company you would like to work for; fax or email your resume to the human resource department. However, the website should list the correct email address for the department you should be submitting your resume to.

If a few days have passed and there has been no reply from the company of interest; call the main office directly to make sure they have received your resume. If you did not contact the right department, then they will transfer you, if not, request that you be transferred to the department that is doing the hiring.

Once you have received a reply, then you will be scheduled for an online training. The company will then email the steps required to complete the hiring process.
