How to Become a Puppeteer

Do you have your own ideas of a puppet or a puppet show? Is your idea for a movie or show unique, perhaps this maybe the career path for you? Children and adults alike enjoy puppet shows. A puppeteer works with storylines, sometimes performing as a main character from the beginning until the end. A puppeteer must have a good attitude, and a sense of humor. A puppeteer should have a passion for entertaining and being confident in speaking in character. Puppetry has been around for years. The show Sesame Street and The Muppet Show are famous for their puppeteers, also ventriloquist are puppeteers. There are a few ways to open the fun house doors into the field of becoming a puppeteer. Let us take a look at some of them.

A puppeteer can be hired or offer to volunteer their entertainment in local communities, party's, and get-togethers. Check out the Puppeteers of America, and you can see if your community offers a puppeteer guild. It may be a good idea to study other languages, becoming a puppeteer; this will help open the doors to entertain people who only speak their native language. Being knowledgeable of the culture your entertaining is helpful, learn about the music, dances, and what makes them laugh. Many cultures have puppet shows. If as a puppeteer you want to teach lessons from a puppets point of view, you must be able to relay that information properly so an audience of a young age can understand. Another plus to working as a puppeteer besides educating, and entertaining, is also having fun. If you have an original idea for your own doll or puppet, other puppeteer's could use them, or sell them. There are no educational requirements to becoming a puppeteer. However, you will have to memorize the puppets lines and be enthusiastic. The work environment is a casual one but there may be physical activity involved.

You can become a puppeteer almost at any age, although in some countries you may have to be of legal age to be paid for your work. When in search of a position for a puppeteer you can also contact your local hospitals. This career can be rewarding in many different ways. You can brighten someone's day, put smiles on faces and perhaps earn an income while doing so. The position of a puppeteer definitely has its benefits and has been around a long time and enjoyed by many children globally.
