Stamp collectors do exactly what the name implies. They save stamps from letters, especially those from other countries. Stamp enthusiasts can be found all over the world. Their notebooks and glassine envelopes are filled with stamps. I have provided some guidelines below if you are interested in becoming a stamp collector.

To get you started with stamp collecting you will need to purchase a few items such as; a stamp album, mounting tapes called hinges. Other tools that will come in handy are small tongs, tweezers and a magnifying glass for looking at intricate details on the stamps.

If you don't own any stamps to start with you can begin by removing the stamps on the mail that arrives this very day. To remove the stamp from the envelope you will want to start by cutting the stamp from the envelope making certain you don't knick the stamp. Once you have removed it from the envelope you will need to soak the stamp in warm water. The remaining piece of envelope will come loose, so you can lift the stamp from the water with your tongs.

Next you will lay your stamp on a paper towel to dry. After your stamp has dried then you must lay a heavy book on top of the stamp to flatten it. Now you are ready for your next step which is to place your new stamp into your album by using one of the hinges. Or perhaps you may elect to use one of your glassine envelopes for your first stamp.

For opportunities to enhance your stamp collecting the internet is a great source. You might want to consider finding a few pen pals through social net working sites, so you can build a collection of stamps from foreign countries. However, most nations print commemorative stamps from time to time.

Many times you will find companies that want your stamp business and they look for a window of opportunity to get you on their mailing list. However, that really isn't such a bad deal for the collector because they normally mail out introductory offers of beautiful foreign stamps. You might be interested in purchasing some of the foreign stamps and if your name isn't on the mailing list you might missed out on a real treasure. Therefore, it makes for a great situation for both parties involved.

Stamp collecting is an educational hobby and past time. If you are looking for a way to meet new friends, then stamp collecting just might be what you have been looking for.
