Once you have an understanding of how to effectively use your links, you will need to determine what affiliate options you have available. Almost any company online today offers an affiliate opportunity. Just choose wisely. Investigate exactly what product &/or service you will be marketing; as well the amount of compensation you will receive for your spending your time to promote their company. If you waste time on an unproven, undesired product, you can quickly lose interest in affiliate marketing altogether and may miss out on great opportunities in the future. My best recommendation, is to find a company with a solid product, competitive pricing and substantial commission.
Once you have your company or companies in place, you will then determine where and how you will be marketing their products/services. Will you be restricted to marketing only online or will you have the capability to promote offline as well? Having the option to promote both online and offline is a great way to increase your results, however, you can easily be successful in just one or the other.
Also, look for companies that provide you with complete marketing kits. They know their most important benefits and features and should show you what they are and how to use them in marketing. This will be a major time-saver and will be much more effective.
Once you begin marketing, track your results as closely as possible. By doing this you can eliminate the efforts that are not working and increase the ones that are! Keep in mind that you may have to track different programs for 30 days or more to determine the results. Some products take longer for customers to become familiar with them before they make a purchase, which requires ongoing marketing efforts.
