Life coaches have become popular in recent years as many people shift from therapy to deal with their past and instead seek to focus on today and tomorrow. Life coaches help people who want to improve their lives in area such as relationships, changing careers, reaching a better self understanding and more. In Canada, there are many options for training to become a life coach and start a new career path. Read on to find out how you can become a life coach in Canada.

Evaluate yourself to determine if you want to become a life coach. Being a life coach isn't something you wake up one day and start doing the next. At My Life Course they offer a series of questions you should ask yourself if you think you might want to become a life coach. Questions such as are you an authentic person, living your values and experiencing success; are you a good communicator; are you passionate about having a great life and other questions.

Choose a life coach field. There are different areas of life coaching, each one specializing in something different. The Spencer Institute of life coaching identifies and trains in 16 areas, including Lifestyle Fitness Coach who help people get and stay healthy and fit; Holistic Life Coaches who approach personal development from the stance of the complete being; the Stress Management Coach who works on people with stressors; the Food Psychology Coach who helps people with their eating patterns; the Sports Psychology Coach for fitness goals and many more.

Find a training center near you. There are many training programs that teach life coaching; however, you need to find one that is certified and offers certification so that when you have completed your training you will be ready to go to work. The Certified Coaches Federation offers courses in many locations in Canada and they offer a discounted rate for early registration.

The CCF offers training for both beginners and those who are seeking to become master coaches. In addition, they offer a mentoring program to help newly certified coaches get their business started and feel more comfortable. The fees for this program are relatively inexpensive, typically under a thousand dollars and although not usually covered under student loans or grants this fee can possibly be charged to a credit card and written off on your taxes as a business expense.
