Step 1: Peel the Labels
Gather up all the bottles that you plan to use, after they are washed out, whether they are beer or wine cooler, and peel off all of the labels. Just remember when gathering bottles that they will be stacked on top of each other, so they need to be the same shape and size. Of course, for the top layer you can always be a little different and use some bigger hard alcohol bottles, such as Vodka, but for the main rows use the same type of beer or wine cooler bottle. In this way, your beer bottle tree will be stable and uniform in size and color.
Step 2: Stack the Bottom Row
To ensure stability, place a piece of plywood or USB onto the bare floor. Make sure that it is precut to the proper size, and painted green or black so that it does not stand out so bad. Once the board is laid down, and secure, beginning places the bottles in a circle, working from the middle and going outward until you reach the desired diameter. For instance, 120 bottles on the bottom row will get you a tree about 59 inches in diameter, depending upon the size and type of bottle that you are using.
Step 3: Stack the Next Rows
After the first row of bottles are in place, add another piece of wood onto the top, making sure that it is cut to fit the next level going on, and not the previous row. Continue following this procedure until the desired height is reached.
Step 4: Decorate
After the beer bottle tree has been finished you can decorate it anyway that you like. Adding lights and ornaments is as simple as decorating a traditional tree, but gives more awe inspiring reflections due to the glass of the bottles.
Building a beer bottle tree is an easy task to accomplish, and if made stable with plywood or OSB, can be just as save and sturdy as a normal tree. And remember, when using the beer or wine cooler bottles for this centerpiece; keep the bottle caps as well. They make great handmade ornaments and decorations.
