Some of my writing has been good, some uninspiring, and too much simply lousy. Much of it has been simply deposited in trash cans or used to start fires in the fire place on cold wintry evenings. In truth, I have long clung to the cherished but unsubstantiated goal of being able to state an articulate and profound idea in a single eloquent sentence. The more complete truth is, I have been a little bit lazy. Unwilling to invest in the time, effort, and conflict of emotion that are so often the cornerstone of mature prose, and battered around by the low probability of success I have too often taken refuge behind the unmistakable evidence that others are capable of saying things in a more comfortable, delightful, witty, or clever way.
By being allowed the opportunity to have my stuff published with the help of associated content, I am now required to meet challenges to my pride, sense of self worth and dignity that can no longer be ignored. Having sat at the local coffee shop and announced to the world my new status as a published writer, I am now obliged to offer evidence. The evidence must of course be insurmountable. The ladies are waiting, and the men on the planet who are obviously of lesser stature are envious.
I have now rediscovered the merits of repeated revisions, the value of a good thesaurus, the importance of long hours in front of a blank sheet of paper coupled with the difficult work and the carafe's of wine that cause the creative juices to flow. The comments offered by my colleagues at associated content serve as a measurement of my personal growth as a writer. If I suceed, I will be allowed the privilege of making noise with my soup; if I prevail, I will undoubtedly become cynical and sardonic. If I achieve the ranks of knighthood, the women will pursue me and the money lenders at the temples will collect their due and move on to pursue all the little people.
The horrible alternative is to continue to write poorly, and publish trash or continue to use the final product to start even more fires in the family fireplace. I prefer the former which demands a more careful approach to my craft coupled with the development of new skills learned by writing more earnestly and more honestly in a vigorous attempt to earn a more attentive audience. The privilege of being published by associated content provides the impetus that makes the possibility of success more probable. I am appreciative.
