How to Get the Best Out of Your Yard Sale Shopping

Summer is on it's way, which means yard sale season is getting ready to be in full swing.

If you're a yard sale junkie, you're always on the lookout for a great deal. Here are some tips to make the most of your upcoming yard sale season!

1. Before you set out, make a list if there is anything specific you are looking for.

2. Find a good route and follow the signs. You'll save time and gas by having an idea where you're going, and stopping at them all along the way.

3. Know your prices. Some people have no idea on how to price things and might be over asking for certain items such as books, records or videos. Know what your limit is, and if they are unwilling to come down, go to the next place.

4. Negotiate. Remember to be friendly, and ask if they're willing to negotiate on prices.

5. Keep an eye out on potential gifts. Christmas comes every year, and it can be a great time to pick up gifts, especially if you're on a budget. A lot of times people will get rid of new items that are still in the box and unopened.

6. Look for neighborhood sales. These are great because you can combine a bunch of yard sales into one when a neighborhood has a group yard sale. You can park, and hit them all in one shot.

7. Look for hobby supplies. If you like making crafts, for instance, keep an eye out for craft supplies. Yard sales are the perfect opportunity to pick up needed items.

8. Camping supplies can often be found at a song and a dance at yard sales as families upgrade to newer equipment. Same can be said for furniture.

9. If you're daring, look for something you can resell. I personally am not good at this, but maybe you are. Pick something up and sell it on Ebay, hopefully you'll do better than I did!

10. Budget a certain amount for yard sales, this way you can do it virtually guilt free. If you need any household items, you can't resist a good deal at a yard sale. Make sure you have funds set aside.

Yard sales can be a great weekend activity if you're looking for deals. You can bring the whole family along and make a day of it. Maybe I'm called "cheap" or "penny-pinching" but that's all right with me!
