How to Get the Best Price Out of Your Used RV Camper

Cheryl Dennett
Once you have decided to replace your old RV camper with a new one, you will face the decision of how to get rid of the old vehicle. You might trade it in on the new camper. But, why not sell it, instead? You will probably get more money out of it. It will just take a bit longer. Here are some tips to help you get the most money out of your used RV camper.

You will get a better price for your used RV camper if it is in the best shape possible. If you have neglected your vehicle over the years, it will not bring the top dollar that is possible for that specific model. But, there are some things you can do to get it into better shape.

If your RV is a motorhome, you should clean and dry the engine. If there are any leaks, they should be fixed. When running, the engine should be quiet and work smoothly. This may take a little work, but it will bring a higher dollar amount in the long run. It should also run efficiently and have enough power to accelerate without delay. Of course, there should be no smoke coming from the engine at all. You should also check all of the fluid level in your vehicle. This should include oil, coolant and any other fluids your vehicle uses.

If there are any problems on the interior of the RV camper that can be fixed quickly and inexpensively, you should attend to those, as well. The carpet should be vacuumed and possibly steam cleaned, especially if there are any stains. All of the appliances should be cleaned inside and out. Check the bathroom. In addition to cleaning it, you should be sure there are no water leaks. The holding tanks should be cleaned. The beds in your RV camper should be made up and have attractive coverings on them. Be sure to let the potential know if they will be going with the camper, or not. If there are curtains, they should be washed. All of the batteries should be fully charged and kept that way while you are trying to sell the vehicle. The freshwater tank should have a bit of water in it so you will be able to show that the faucets are in working order and do not leak. And, if there are propane tanks, they should be; filled as well.

The exterior should also be cleaned and polished. If you see any corrosion on the vehicle, try fixing it with a wire brush and some spray paint. You should also check the tires. They should have the correct amount of air pressure according to the manual for your vehicle.

After you have cleaned and performed repairs on your RV camper, you will need to decide how much to ask. A good place to check would be the "NADA Used RV Prices Guide." It is similar to the blue book used for autos. This will give you a range to start with for pricing your vehicle.

Once you have done all this, it is time to advertise your intent to sell your RV camper. You can do this online, in newspapers, or perhaps with flyers. However you decide to sell your camper, hopefully, these tips will help you get a better price out of your used RV camper.
