First of all if you are a couple you could try to get a reservation at your favorite restaurant; so you can parade around like everyone else, wait for a table and then if you do get a table wait for your server who know will be slammed busy with nothing but "two tops" all night which is a certified guarantee that he/she will not be in the best of moods. Let me let you in on a little secret. Servers hate valentines day because this is the one day of year they actually loose money. Yes that is right. All the tables that usually hold reservations for four to six people become wasted space filled with "twosomes" who want a "romantic" dinner. It's a server's nightmare (at least on Mother's day most of the tables are filled with a few more people).
If you want to make a server happy in turn getting good service, bring as many friends as you can and get the biggest table in the middle of the restaurant and drink to your hearts content. Try to understand that every dude in the restaurant is trying to get laid and will do anything and everything to make his lady happy. Women as we all know are picky and inconsistant when it comes to dining situations. Understand their expectations will be high on this day putting even more pressure on even the most experienced servers.
All those cute little couples who don't want to be bothered will wonder what you and you fine single friends are laughing about. You are guaranteed to be the best tip of the night just because of the number of people you bring, and you will be well taken care of. Which brings me to my next idea. Skipping the whole restaurant thing altogether..
Booking a babysitter well in advance should be enough to guarantee a great night. You can purchase tea lights at the dollar store, grab a decent bottle of champagne for about ten bucks and cook a great meal to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. If you don't cook that is fine...call your favorite establishment to prepare your food well in advance, go pick it up to reheat and enjoy later.
Don't forget the chocolate covered strawberries...just melt some chocolate chips on low heat ...dip in the berries on long skewers and place on wax paper. This is the best with champagne. Rent, buy or order a sexy movie to get in the mood and enjoy...
If you are not a couple...go to a club and dance with someone. Love is in the air and you never know what could happen. Single or coupled Valentines day is about love. Love for your friends, peeps, hommies or whatever, this is the day to celebrate your relationships no matter what the dynamic. Do not get tied to the traditional role of what this holiday means...make it unique to your specific situation at the present moment...eat some strawberries...wear a sexy low cut top and get over it!
