Driving the speed limit
Seems like everyone is in a hurry everyday. Study show that even if you speed you are not getting to your destination any faster. Experts say that if you go above 38 mph you are already starting to burn more fuel. Going the posted speed limit even though you might be in a hurry can save up to 10% of fuel in your tank. Think about the millions of people that speed everyday. Thats millions of dollars wasted.
Check your tire pressure
When you don't check tire pressure and over inflate your tires you can mess up the traction and the tires will wear down faster. Which will make your car work harder to run. Having your tire pressure right will give you better gas mileage.
Make sure you get your oil changes
Old oil will make your engine work harder. When oil ages it become thicker and makes it a lot harder to push through the engine. Getting factory recommended oil changes will release the pressure on your engine and increase you gas mileage.
Remove junk in the car
The extra weight in the car don't ride for free. It takes energy from yyour vehicle to haul it around. Taking out unused cargo will help your engine run smoother and release pressure from your engine.
Avoid idling for a long time
You will burn more gasoline if you allow your vehicle to idle for a long period of time. Try avoid going to the drive through if possible. Just park your car and walk in. Try to avoid peak traffic hours and rush hours and plan your route around these times. If you are going to be stopped for a long time turn off your car.
Roll up the window
Drive with the windows up. This will reduce the drag on the vehicle. When you have more drag you are making it harder for your vehicle to run.
Dealing with traffic
When dealing with heavy traffic leave as much of a distance as you can this will keep your vehicle to have a constant speed while other cars in front of you are stopping and going.
Driving in bad weather
Drive in front of another car when you are driving in bad weather as in heavy rain. This allows the vehivle to reduce rolling resistance.
Using the AC
Set the air to recirculate and manually turn A/C on and off as you need. Air Conditioning uses a lot of power so use it accordingly.
Following distance
Maintain a good following distance between other vehicles. This allows you to cruise and not brake immediately when the car in front are slowing down and it is a lot safer.
Filling Up
Using the internet search for best gas prices before you go make a run or going to work. Choose the cheapest gas price that is not out of your route. Plan ahead before you run out of gas.
Follow these simple rule you will be able to get the best gas mileage and reduce wasting gas. Gas prices seems to have no relief at the time. Do just a little bit can help in the long run.
