Getting better quality sleep can greatly improve the quality of your life. In doing so, you will be able to sleep less and have significantly more energy. The amount of sleep you get is not what is important; the quality of your sleep is the most significant factor. It's not difficult to increase the quality of your sleep.

First of all, make sure you are sleeping in a location that is effective for sleep. Having a dark bedroom is crucial. Your bedroom should be as dark as possible, as well as being cool as free of noise. Even though it's not possible to have absolute control over these factors, you should attempt to regulate them as best as possible. Making sure you are sleeping on a comfortable surface is also important. In order to keep your brain from misinterpreting what your bed is for, you shouldn't do things in bed that aren't related to sleeping, such as watching movies or reading. If you don't plan on sleeping, then refrain from laying in your bed. Your bed should only be used for sleeping so that your brain does not associate it with anything else. This will help your body automatically begin to go to sleep whenever you get into your bed.

Don't drink beverages containing high amounts of caffeine late at night. By doing this, you will make it significantly more difficult to get quality sleep. Smoking cigarettes poses the same threat as caffeine. As nicotine is a stimulant, it also makes it more difficult for you to get to sleep. Eating heavy meals late at night, besides being a bad dietary habit, will also make it harder to go to sleep because your body will be busy digesting the food. This will also affect the quality of your sleep.

Don't get into your bed if you aren't ready to go to sleep. If you're not tired, there's no reason to get into your bed. First of all, you won't fall asleep if you're not tired. If you're simply getting into bed because you feel it's time to go to sleep, you're helping further a useless habit. It's possible that you do not need as much sleep as you have been used to getting in previous times. As soon you wake up, you should get out of bed. Don't stay in your bed just laying around, because this will decrease your energy levels. Although it may be hard the first couple of times, it's a good habit to get into in the long run. If you get into the habit of going for a moderate intensity jog as soon as you wake up, you will find your energy levels to be greatly increased during your day.

As soon as you've gotten used to your new sleeping habits, you will find you need less sleep, as the quality of your sleep will be greatly increased. It's not uncommon to immediately notice you can sleep for less amounts of time and have increased energy levels.

  • When it comes to sleeping, it's good to choose quality over quanity.
