In 1 Samuel Chapter 17 we hear about the battle between David and Goliath. When Goliath comes out everyone runs and takes cover. They are scared to death when they see this huge giant coming out but not David. David's first words about Goliath are this "for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" He wants to know who is defying God!!!! He does not see a giant, he sees someone who is doing something against His God and he says that is just not going to happen.
Now when David says that he will take care of this giant and Saul basically tells him he is crazy because he is just a youth who is not strong and there is no way that he can take out this giant. David goes on to tell Saul about how when a bear or lion come and take one of his sheep, he does not just let them go, he takes out that bear or lion and gets his sheep back. Now, do you really think that is what most sheep keepers do? I think not!!! They are not going to fight a bear or lion to get that sheep back. As my Preachers says, "he is going to start thinking of how he is going to explain to the boss man that a sheep is missing."
David has such a strong faith in God that he does not see giants at all. He just sees someone who is doing something wrong and in this case with Goliath, he sees someone defying his God. So Saul gives David all his armor to put on and Saul says no way! He says he can not fight in that stuff and he takes it off and goes out with nothing on him but his cloths to fight this giant that everyone else is terrified of. Now realize for 40 some days the Philistines (Goliath) has been taunting them and making this a very huge deal. The build up for this battle is very long! David goes out and uses his choice of weapon and takes Goliath out! That is it . . . it is done . . . it is over!!!! Goliath is a goners!!!
The faith that David had was incredible. When things went wrong he faced it head on and won the battle no matter what it was. He has such a strong faith in God that he did not see giants. He sees a challenge and lets God take control and wins the battle because God is Big.
So here is my question to you; do you see giants? When things go wrong or you are faced with a challenge, how do you handle it? Do you freak out and get worried or scared or something like that? Most of us do in many situations in our life. That is not how our Father wants us to handle things though. He wants us to face that challenge head on and know that He is big enough to handle it for us!
So when things go "wrong" in life, don't look at how bad it is; instead look at how wonderful and awesome our Lord is and look at how He is going to get you through it and how He is going to use it to Bless you and possible even others!
