How to Make Bird Baths

John Yates
Clean all of the terra cotta pots and saucers. Make sure that the edges around the tops and bottoms are especially free of dirt and grime, these will be the surfaces that will be glued together.

Place a 24 inch diameter terra cotta saucer flat on the ground, open side down.

Glue one 12 inch tall terra cotta flower pot, open end down, to the saucer. Make sure the pot is centered right in the middle of the saucer or else it will lean to one side and possible fall. Use plenty of glue, this is the anchor or base of the birdbath. Allow enough time to dry before proceeding.

Glue two of the flower pots together, open end to open end. This is the middle section and will be added to the base later. Allow time to for the glue to dry.

Glue the remaining flower pot to the other saucer, open side down, in the same manner as the anchor section. Allow to dry.

Glue the middle section of two flowerpots onto the base section so that the small ends of the flowerpots are joined. Allow the glue to dry.

Glue the top section (bowl) of the birdbath to the middle or neck section. The small bottom ends of the flower pots should be joined together. Allow to glue to dry.

Paint the birdbath. Colors will help your birdbath to stand out, just make sure you use a weather resistant paint so that it does not peel up after being exposed to the elements. Allow paint to dry before proceeding.

Spray the birdbath with sealant. This will further protect it from the weather, and it will lengthen the life tremendously. Allow sealant to dry before using the birdbath.

Place the birdbath in the desired location and fill with water.
