How to Make a Bird's Nest Wedding Bouquet

Pam Parent
Bird's nest wedding bouquets are a lovely alternative to the traditional bouquet. It is the perfect bouquet choice for a casual, beach, outdoor, country or green wedding. I love the look of this bouquet with a causal or simple wedding dress. The bride looks stunning carrying this unique, non-traditional bridal bouquet.

Bird's Nest Bridal Bouquet

10 inch grapevine wreath
Scissors
Vine of leaves
Silk wildflowers, daises and sunflowers
Scissors
Glue gun
Glue sticks
15 inches of one inch thick manila rope
2 bags of natural Spanish moss
Small white bird
2 yards of satin ribbon matching wedding colors
Floral wire

Directions:

1. Place the grapevine wreath on a covered work area. Glue one end of the rope to the inside of the wreath. Glue the other end of the rope directly across from the beginning rope, and to the inside of that end of the wreath. Weave both ends of a piece of floral wire through the glued end of the rope and grapevine wreath. Twist wire ends together. Repeat to the other end of the rope. This will give extra security to securing the handle to the bottom of the bird's nest.

2. Put glue on a section of the wreath. Place the moss on the top of the glue. Repeat this step to the top, inside, around the handles and edges of the wreath. Once the wreath is completely covering the entire wreath, go back and glue the moss to make sure the moss is secure. This is the bird's nest bouquet.

3. Glue the beginning of the leaf vine at one of the handle bottoms. Wrap the vine around the handle. Glue the other end of vine to the other end of the handle. Cut off excess vine. Glue remaining vine around the edge of the bird's nest. Glue the wildflowers on and throughout the bird's nest. Glue the bird to the handle or side of the bird's nest basket. I also love the look of butterflies added to the bird's nest. The decorating options are limitless.

4. Cut the satin ribbon in half. Tie one piece of ribbon into a bow at one end where the handle was attached. Repeat this step with the other piece ribbon at the other end of the handle. Trim ribbon ends.

The manila rope needed to make the bird's nest bridal bouquet can be found at www.knotandrope.com. They sell the rope by the inch.
