How to Be a Blessing to Others

DeeDee
Many people live their entire lives wrapped up in things that make them happy. Often they don't worry about those around them or even realize that they should. It's all about them. Now I am all for obtaining your goals and getting what you want out of life, don't get me wrong, but I think there is to more life than just that. God wants to bless us with a happy life and I am sure he wouldn't mind seeing us bless others while we're at it.

It really doesn't take much you know. Sacrificing your entire pay check to someone else, which is a nice gesture, isn't necessary. Sometimes it's the small things that can make the biggest impact on others lives.

About two weeks ago I was at work at my job at a local university. I am in the technology training department and was scheduled to conduct a training on a product that allows people to get help on Microsoft products online. We have two trainings rooms, both of which I do not have a key for. There are a lot of security precautions taken so pieces of technological equipment are not stolen so only a select few have a key. The problem? Every person that I was use to going to let me in the room was out for the day, victims of the relentless flu. Hmm. What was I to do?

I searched the building for someone else who might have the key, but couldn't find anyone. I had a big dilemma. I was a trainer who couldn't get in the training room to train. Then I ran into Mike. He was one of the only people around that day and was involved working on a project. Fortunately, with my plea for help, he came to my rescue and let me in the room. Then he proceeded to double check the equipment to make sure I would have a successful training. In his eyes, all he did was let me in a room. To me, he had blessed me for the day. I was now able to do what I needed to do without going too far out of my way to accomplish it. I was grateful to him for his help.

See? That's all it takes some times to bless someone's day. Sometimes it doesn't even really require much effort on your part to make a huge difference for someone else.

Well what types of things are talking about? Here are a few easy ways to bless someone today:

Say hello to the cashier at the grocery store.
Hold the door for someone.
Take note of something someone wants and get it for them for the birthday or next holiday.
Lend your co-worker lunch money.
Buy a friend a cup of coffee.
Pay the toll for the person before you.
Follow through on something you said you were going to do.
Lend a friend a good book that inspired you in some way.
Pick up your mom's favorite candy and give to her as a treat the next time you see her.
Take initiative and do a chore for someone before they need to do it. This way they won't have to do it.

As I mentioned on my blog Blessings from Above which delves a little deeper into blessings, Joel Osteen, Christian author and Pastor, believes that if we bless others today, God will bless us with more blessings than we'll know what to do with. Give a try. I am. It can't hurt, right?

Be blessed. You can find a link to my blog Blessings from Above under the links section on this page. Enjoy!

Kyle-- You stated "Joel Osteen preaches a gospel different from what the Bible teaches." In this regard it would be useful if you could go into furher detail regarding how you came to this conclusion.

If everyone would be this way we'd have Heaven on Earth. I always try to be kind and friendly to all I meet, and I go out of my way to help people. You sound like a very special person with a kind heart. I really enjoyed this, and reading it was a blessing! @:-) That little picture is supposed to be an angel with a halo. @:-)
