Research Reviewers
Research the people and places you want to have your book reviewed. You want to make sure the reviewer is interested in your type of book. It's also a good idea to check some of other reviews in your genre. They may accept all genres but not have a great liking to a certain style which may result in someone already in a mind set of disliking your book before even reading the first page.
Show You're Worth It
Reviewers receive many books each week eager to become reviewed. Show the reviewer that your book is worth reviewing by including reviews from other reviewers. It may change their mind once they see others have taken the time to review your work. If you have a galley copy of your book, make sure to alert the reviewer of any mistakes. They may not realize this if you don't warn them and it could end up bad mouthing your work.
Time
Don't call, write or e-mail the day your book package arrives. Having an author on the reviewers case could backfire to bad word of mouth about you. Not to mention a bad vibe going into reviewing your book or no book review at all.
You may want to include a stamped post card that has options that the reviewer can check out whether they are going to review your book and if so, in what time frame if they provide one. Some reviewers may fill and mail these out, others may trash them.
A Thank You
Remember to politely thank the reviewer for taking the time to review your book. It's always nice to know their time was appreciated. You may have to google yourself if your book review has been posted online since sometimes reviewers don't have the time to notify you that your review has been posted. Don't Give up. If one reviewer won't review your work, keep trying until you find someone that does.
