How to Boost Your Computer Speed

Speed Up Your PC in a Few Easy Steps

Jason Ward
I, like most people, have had in the past some pretty nasty experiences with my pc going so slow that I would rather not use it than waste hours waiting for some applications; I did some research into it and experimented a little and have come up with some valuable info.

Computers can run slowly or freeze a lot for a variety of reasons, I would say that the most probably cause is that you have a virus, worm, or even a Trojan, you should immediately install some sort of anti-virus program on your computer, I would recommend Norton or AVG, once installed you should do a thorough scan and delete or lock any virus infected programs or files, if you are an avid internet user I would suggest the scan for at least once a week.

Another thing that can be bogging up the computer is your startup programs, the ones that are programmed to open when you boot your computer, a lot of times these programs are unnecessary and just take up ram space, if you go to "msconfig" you will find the list of these programs and can check the programs you want and the ones you do not want for startup, this will increase the speed quite dramatically. Just be careful not to disable any program that windows might need to startup as this can seriously damage your computer.

Cleaning recent files and internet history is another way to unclog your computer, there are number of ways doing this, you can opt for the manual way and do each separately, but I would suggest getting a program such as Windows Sweeper and let that take care of the job for you as it does them all in one with one push of the button.

Another reason which some people don't realize is slowing their system is a full Hard Drive, the more data you have stored on your computer obviously the slower its going to run, I would suggest you buying an external Hard Drive and copying you large files and folders over to it so that you can clear up your computers one, trust me this will make a big change. You can also open the program "Windows Defrag" and defragment your Hard Drive, this basically organizes your hard drive so that the used space is all in order and makes more free space.

If you follow these steps, I guarantee your computer will be going a lot faster, and if it is not, than I would suggest buying a new computer as your old one has serious problems.
