How to Boost Your Energy Instantly and Naturally

Katherine Huether
Do you find that your energy flags now and then? For most of us, the natural tendency is to reach for something sugary or rich with caffeine to help give an energy boost. The problem with both of these methods is that it could cause you to crash. Try these natural energy boosters instead.

Drink Plenty of Water

Sometimes when our energy wanes it's because we're thirsty. When you feel tired and sluggish, instead of napping or reaching for an unhealthy energy booster like sugar laden coffee or energy drink, down a glass or two of clean water and see how you feel. It might just do the trick!

Eat Frequent, Small Meals

This only applies to healthy meal choices, of course. Spreading your daily calories over the course of five or six meals keeps your metabolism revved and gives your body the energy it needs to be healthy. In other words, if you treat food is fuel you'll have more energy than you'll know what to do with.

Exercise to Make Your Body Stronger

Sometimes, people get tired because they're out of shape. If you're new to exercising, take it slow at first. You want to exercise enough so that your body gets stronger, leaner, and more efficient. If you want to maximize your energy, you'll want to exercise nearly every day.

Do something you enjoy. You can garden, walk, lift weights, dance, run - it's up to you what activities you do. But exercising will give you more energy over time.

Drink Green Tea

Green tea is a good energy boost. It doesn't have a lot of caffeine and the health benefits of green tea are outstanding. If you want just a quick boost of instant energy, you can add ΒΌ teaspoon of raw honey (but no more than that). Drinking 2-3 cups of green tea throughout each day is enough to leave you feeling energized without making you crash.

Get Enough Sleep

Many of us don't get enough sleep. If you're getting less than seven or eight hours of sleep, chances are good that you don't have energy because you're sleep deprived. Go to bed an hour earlier tonight and see how you feel tomorrow. If you need help sleeping, try sipping a cup of chamomile tea before bed.

Sniff Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint can give you a quick pick-me-up when you feel your energy start to wane. We all have energy highs and lows throughout the day. Just mix a drop of peppermint in small dish with some Epsom salt and put it in a small container. Undo the lid and sniff when you need some quick energy.

If your lack of energy is chronic and these tips don't seem to help, make sure to see your doctor to rule out any larger health concerns.
