How to Boost Fertility Naturally

Mike Burnside
Many couples have asked the age-old question of why they cannot conceive when other couples are successful. The answer usually involves the lifestyle and the age of the couple. As many couples find out, the longer you wait to have children, the harder it is to conceive them. Fertility begins to decline with age naturally. These same couples will sometimes undergo expensive drug and surgical fertility treatments. These fertility options tend to work only 25 percent of the time for most couples. However, experts are now pointing to some natural ways to increase the odds of fertility. Those include making lifestyle changes such as weigh control, physical activity and a proper diet to give couples a better chance at conceiving.

Boost Your Fertility by Cutting Trans Fats
The next time you dive into a bag of cookies or chips, remember it is not just weight gain your body is taking on. You will be increasing your intake of trans fat as well. An increase in trans fat decreases your ability to ovulate. Trans fats will make your body increase its insulin output, which in turn will increase the levels of hormones. Those increased hormones have a direct effect on ovulation.

Change your diet to more monounsaturated fats such as in olive and vegetable oils. By decreasing trans fats and replacing them with monounsaturated fats, you improve your insulin production and therefore improve your hormone levels. This gives your body a better chance at ovulation.

Boost Your Fertility by Losing Weight
This may seem like a no-brainer, but experts have stated that no matter what your current weight, losing just 5 percent could result in an increase in blood flow to the womb. That increase of blood can trigger the release of eggs from the ovaries. Losing weight will help stabilize your insulin production and therefore improve reproduction hormone levels.

However, be careful not to overdo your weight loss. Being too thin can also throw your insulin and reproductive hormones off. The best situation is to have a body mass index (BMI) score of 20 to 24 to jump start your ovulation cycle.

Boost Your Fertility by Exercising
Moderate exercising has been found to control insulin, control weight, regulate menstrual cycles, and reduce stress, all factors needed for fertility. However, for women who are too lean, exercising can be counterproductive in fertility. Make sure that you balance exercise and body weight to stay at the correct BMI score.

Boost Your Fertility by Relaxing
Stress reduction can certainly increase your odds of fertility. Having anxiety and stress will upset a woman's menstrual cycle and can delay or stop her from ovulating.

Find ways to take the pressure off by finding what helps you to relax. Try yoga, acupuncture, or massages to relieve the stress. Make time for pleasurable activities as well, be it reading, long walks, spontaneous sex, or anything that takes the pressure off trying to get pregnant.
