How to Boost Your Freelance Writing Income

Katherine Huether
I've been making a living as a writer for several years now and I understand what it takes to boost your freelance writing income. My career has gone through a lot of different stages, and each one has taken my income to the next level. Whenever I need to make more money, I do the following items to help me reach my goals.

Can you work harder?

One of the simplest ways I have found to make more money is to figure out how I can work harder, longer hours, and be more efficient. Even if my hourly rate doesn't change, doing these three things will automatically help me earn more money. The problem with this strategy is that I can't sustain it.

Boost the Hourly Rate

Another great way to boost your writing income is to raise your hourly rate. I've done this as well. In fact, every six months to one year you should boost your rate automatically. With each article that you write, you gain a little more experience and expertise. This automatically boosts your rate.

Expand Your Services

Another great way to make more money writing is to expand your services. For example, if you're primarily an article writer, start writing eBooks as well. There are all kinds of different things you can write. Gravitate towards the higher paying projects, such as copywriting, to earn more cash.

Keep Your Clients

How often do you complete a project for a client only to never see them again? Try to prevent this from happening. Stay in touch with your clients. Send out a newsletter. Write them a personal email every now and then. Thank them for your project, let them know if you expand your services, etc. It is a lot easier to keep a client than to get a new one.

Join a Writing Team

Do you spend most of your time looking for work? Getting accepted into a writing team can save you a ton of time. Yes, you may be making lower rates on projects, but you can spend all your time writing instead of looking for clients part of the time. Just train your self to type faster and be more efficient with your writing time. Not needing to look for clients could boost your income considerably.

If you want to make more money writing there are some things you can do. Follow the tips outlined in this article and you'll be on your way!
