How to Bottle and Store Your Own Water for a Family Road Trip

Mrs. Renee

There are many families who invest time, and money into buying bottled water. Especially when they are planning a family road trip. The reason for doing this is to give their families fresh clean water to drink and to keep them healthy while on a trip. The benefits for the family are not just health benefits, but also financial benefits. Bottling your own water, will not take too much additional time out of your day. Buying your own bottled water will cost you a lot of money, and depending on how far you will be traveling for your road trip you may have to take frequent stops.

In order to go about bottling your own water there are a few things you will need to purchase first. At least two portable water bottles for each member of your family. This may seem like a lot of money up front, but it will be well worth the effort. Remember that you will only have to spend the extra money for these water bottles once. If you purchase water bottles during the month of July you may be able to find good quality water bottles on sale. Look for water bottles that stay cool for an extended period of time. This way you will not have to worry about the kids going in and out of the cooler as you are driving down the road. Some water bottles are better at keeping water cold so be sure to do your research.

The next investment you will need to make is to put a water filtration device on your faucet in the kitchen. These will cost you about thirty five dollars and can usually be found at your local Wal-Mart store. You will need to replace the filters every few months but the cost is minimal. This will also be a temporary investment, and will be worth the initial payout. Fill the water bottles with the water using the sink filter. Or you can use the water filtration pitcher. Then place the water bottles into the freezer. If you are taking a day trip when you put them in the cooler from the freezer they should stay cold most of the day. If you will be taking an extended family road trip you may want to fill up a larger cooler with the fresh filtered tap water. This will save you from having to stop for water when someone needs a refill. Store the water in a cooler with ice packs, or small bags of fresh ice. This will help to keep the water cold for the duration of your trip.
