This is a fun craft project, for making a bowl with a crocheted doily. You can purchase crocheted doilies from any craft store or check out your local thrift stores. A crocheted doily bowl is a great way to display potpourri, nuts, candy etc. Consider decorating your crocheted doily to match your decor or design one for the holidays. This project is so easy, you can even get the kids involved! Let them make and design their own little crocheted doily bowl.

Materials:

6" round crocheted doily, plastic container (margarine tub, works great), plastic wrap, white craft glue, 1/4" wide satin ribbon, silk flower (optional)

This craft project can be a little messy, so be sure to cover your work surface with newspaper or plastic.

Directions:

Before you can begin crafting your crocheted doily bowl, you will need to make the fabric stiffener. In a bowl, combine an ample amount of the craft glue with a little water and mix it well. Now lay the plastic container face down on your work surface and cover the bottom with the plastic wrap.

Next, place the crocheted doily into the bowl of craft glue that you prepared and move it around with your hand until it is thoroughly drenched. Lift the crocheted doily and wring out the excess glue.

Now, wrap the crocheted doily over the plastic container and press it to the sides. Letting the edges flair out, to create a rim for your crocheted doily bowl. Spread out some of the plastic wrap and set your project on it (still face down). Let it dry overnight.

Once the crocheted doily bowl has dried completely (it should be stiff), turn it right side up. Take the satin ribbon and thread it, in and out of the holes around the doily bowl. Take both ends of the satin ribbon and tie them into a pretty bow. Now fill your bowl with anything you like.

Note: These directions are for making a crocheted doily bowl with a 6" doily. Although you can use any size crocheted doily, just as long as it will cover the plastic container you are using. By changing the size of the plastic container and crocheted doily, you can make your crocheted doily bowl any size you want.

Tip: To further embellish your crocheted doily bowl, attach a pretty silk flower or mini satin roses. You can even decorate the rim with beaded trim. Be creative and decorate your crocheted doily bowl to suit your taste.
