start with the greatest sand castle and moat ever built. If you don't start with the greatest, then there's no reason in starting the whole process anyway. In addition to that, most kids will consider that they have created the greatest sand castle ever. Take a large handful of sand and put it in the moat in front of the door. Pack this sand down well and form it into a rectangle that goes across the moat, down the side, across the moat again and up the other side. Continue to pile sand into this area till it gets to the top of the moat. Once it's at the top of the moat, pile a bit more and level it off so that it is seamless from ground to moat to castle.
Take your two index fingers and place them at the center of your rectangle you've created on either side. Slowly begin to dig into the center of your rectangle. Dig very slow, with a "come here" movement of your index finger. Make sure to watch for crack forming on the top of your bridge. If you see little cracks, stop digging, and tap down the bridge and make the cracks go away. You've now just solidified the bridge even more. Continue to dig till your index fingers touch, or you can't reach anymore.
Go get a stick about a foot long. This can be any foot long straight instrument of any kind. Put your stick into the hole and slowly start to widen it, and dig out the pieces bit by bit. If you didn't break through tot he other side with your fingers you will shortly break through with your stick. Keep making sure there are no cracks forming, if so pat it down. Once you break through, clear out all the dirt below the hole. Being very very careful, remove more and more dirt till you have only the bridge and the moat is clear of any obstruction. Now you are ready to have water flowing through the moat and under your bridge.
