How to Do Bright and Bold Eyeshadow that Lasts All Day

The eyes are the first thing most people see when they look at your face, so make your eyes look as bright and bold as you feel. Neon colors were once a popular trend in the '80s but have recently resurfaced into makeup and fashion.

Neutral tones such as black, white or gray can be used with any eye color. Combine the textures of a metallic eyeshadow with the eye-catching color of a neon eyeshadow to create a bold statement. Add a bit of a lighter color of a sheer or matte eyeshadow to dull the colors down a bit. A quick swipe with a powder puff lightly dusted with unscented baby powder also works here.

Bright colored eyeshadow for brown eyes: Oranges and browns can combine to create a fun and fascinating fall look. Using a medium brown eyeshadow, line the crease of your eye as dark as you like. Next choose an orange or coral shade that compliments your skin and apply it to the middle of your eyelid and blend it toward your ear, but not too far out. Fill in the area closest to the bridge of your nose with the same brown you chose for darkening the crease of your eyelid and blend together. Perfect fall colors!

For those with green or hazel eyes most shades of green and yellow are very complimentary. For a mesmerizing look that brings green eyes to life simply choose a light to medium color of green eyeshadow to fill in the middle of your eyelid going out toward the ear on each side. Next use a bright yellow, or a more neutral yellow if desired, and fill in the area from the middle of your eyelid to the bridge of your nose. Blend if desired for a less dramatic look.

For blue eyes almost any shade of blue, turquoise or lavender will bring out the blue in your eyes and make them seem to pop. A simple yet defining technique to highlight your blue eyes is to line the crease with a darker blue eyeshadow and blend it outward toward your ear just a little for a glamorous effect. Then choose a light to medium blue eyeshadow and use the lighter color on the eyelid closest to your nose blending it into the middle of your eyelid. To finish the look, use a white, or sheer light blue eyeshadow on the brow bone located beneath the eyebrow.

If you want a deep or bold color eyeshadow to stay longer an easy and well-known beauty trick is to lick or wet the makeup applicator before putting the eyeshadow onto it. This helps to achieve the bold, bright or neon colors that the eyeshadow is intended to be. Without a bit of moisture the eyeshadow powder is loose and really has nothing holding it onto the brush or your eyelid. Another way to do this and avoid spitting on your makeup brushes is to apply a tiny amount of Vaseline or petroleum jelly to the makeup brush before it touches the eyeshadow.
