Easy Hair Tips to Retain Length

Dry hair often occurs during the winter, being exposed to cold working conditions, or from not giving enough attention to the hair. Dry hair often appears to have no natural shine or sheen. It may have a limp appearance or look like too much heat has been used. Nothing is worse than looking fantastic from head to toe, and realize the hair looks crisp and brittle. Here are some tips on how to bring moisture back to dry hair.

Take a look into the products that are being used on a daily or weekly basis. It is common for products to stop working after a few months or even years of continued use. Cleansing the hair thoroughly helps to ensure that all product buildup is out of the hair.

Clarifying Shampoo

Using a clarifying shampoo should not be done weekly for women with course or kinky hair, or those with naturally dry scalps. Pay attention to how to individual strands of hair feel after the shampoo is over. This will help make it easier to determine when to use the clarifying shampoo again. This may be once a month or every ten days if a lot of products are used while styling.

Home Remedies for Dry Hair

Women with course, curly, thin, straight, or kinky hair may benefit from allowing the natural oils to soak into the hair overnight or longer prior to styling. Natural products give the freedom of knowing there is not anything else within the ingredient list. Sometimes using natural products like olive oil, argon oil, or shea butter helps to seal in softness and moisture.

Olive oil is very affordable and is available at the Dollar Tree and other discount grocers. Simply use the oil after washing and conditioning the hair. Coat the hair strands with the oil, paying special attention to the ends. Then style the hair with one styling product at a time. Try using less products to see which one is drying out the hair.

Hair Mask Pampering the hair with a hair mask can be done once a week in between placing a bit of oil on the ends. Many salons offer this service at a reasonable rate. This is especially helpful form those with extremely long or kinky hair. Higher end beauty supply stores may carry hair masks. Adding a bit of oil to a drug store beauty supply treatment and using a conditioning cap may give better results.

Dry hair is often not solved by using tons of commercial products. Using natural products as a base styling aide on clean hair can help restore moisture and natural sheen. Use these tips to improve dry hair quickly.

  • Olive oil is inexpensive start with 1 tabelspoon, use more as needed.
  • Hair products that work in the warmer months may be drying out hair in the winter.
  • Use one commercial hair product at a time to see its effect on the hair.
Using too many hair products can weight the hair down and cause it to lack shine or a natural sheen.
