How to Broil Hot Dogs in an Oven

Ah, summer time! It's time to take the family outside and enjoy the sunshine. Taking walks in the park, swimming in the river, and having picnics in the backyard are just some of my favorite activities during this time of the year. One of my favorites picnic entrees is the hot dog. Hot dogs are quiet a treat and really easy to make, even for the novice cook, however, most fancy them in the barbecue. But there's a problem, what if you don't have a barbecue are you out of luck? Of course your not, there are a number of ways to cook any meat including roasting, boiling, and baking. The best alternative for cooking hot dogs is the broiler option. Most ovens have it as a setting and this article aims to teach you how easy it is to broil a hot dog.

First, you're going to need a few things. An oven (or another appliance that can broil), small cookie sheet, tin foil, a fork or tong, non-stick spray of some sort, and lastly hot dogs and buns will be required. BBQ sauce or other seasonings could also be used to spice those dogs up. With those handy in the kitchen we can go about broiling up some hot dogs.

We need to set the oven on to broil before we set anything else up. This is so that the oven can pre-heat while we do a couple other preparations. Now take the cookie or baking sheet and place a sheet of aluminum foil on it. Afterwards, spray some non-stick spray on the foil so the hot dogs don't stick to it. This is to reduce clean up and keep the pan from getting mucked up by the spray over time. Now open the pack of wieners and set them out on the foil.

By time the prep is done the oven should be ready to go. Place the sheet on the top shelf of the oven for best results. The hot dogs should take about 10 to 15 minutes to completely cook. You'll be able to tell when they're done after they've turned a much darker shade or if the skin of the dog ruptures. Also, every four or five minutes take your fork, open the oven, and rotate the hot dogs to even out the cooking. When they're done set them out on top of the oven and let them sit for a couple minutes. This will make the juice settle and not explode in your face when eating. After settling place them in a bun and enjoy.
