Thanksgiving is a very festive and fun holiday, unfortunately decorating and cooking for so many people can be expensive. You can easily have a very festive and enjoyable thanksgiving that you will be proud of, without having to spend a lot of extra money. If you follow these tips you will be able to have a large Thanksgiving dinner, and you will still be able to pay the rent.

Don't Stress About Your Dinnerware: Nobody is going to care if every plate matches or if you have perfectly polished silverware. If you don't have fine china to use, don't buy anything special and don't rent anything. You can mix and match dishes to create a eclectic holiday arrangement. Your guests won't realize that you don't have the necessary china, they will just think you are being unique and creative.

Have A Bring A Dish Dinner: Every year when people come to your house for Thanksgiving dinner they ask "What can I bring?". You always say nothing, but this year make it different take the extra help. Let each person coming to dinner bring part of the meal. Make the Turkey yourself, have several people bring side dishes and have somebody bring dessert. Food is very expensive, so spreading out the dishes among several people will greatly help cut costs. This will also help you save time, and give you more time to spend with your loved ones rather then in the kitchen.

Don't Wait Until The Last Minute: As Thanksgiving approaches the stores will get more crowded, and the prices of the traditional Thanksgiving dinner items will often go up in price. You don't want to wait until the last minute and find out that the only turkeys left at the store are the expensive brand name. If you start shopping early you can buy your items as they go on sale. Be sure to check out your stores sale flyer's, you will often find great deals.

Have A Non-Traditional Dinner: When you think of Thanksgiving dinner you picture turkey, potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and cranberry sauce. A lot of the items that make up the typical Thanksgiving dinner can be expensive. Turkeys are not cheap, so a great way to save money is to have something besides turkey. You can look for other meats that are on sale such as ham, or you can go a completely different direction. You can have something that is more ethnic such as enchiladas or a pasta dish. No matter what food you serve at your thanksgiving dinner you friends and family will enjoy themselves.

Have Kids Make Decorations: Don't buy expensive pre-made decorations, making your own decorations is much cheaper, more unique, and a lot more fun. If you have kids you can have them help you decorate the house before everyone comes over. Or you can make decorating part of the Thanksgiving day fun. As your guests arrive you can have them make decorations such as center pieces that they can take home with them. You can find many places on-line that have great, simple, and inexpensive crafts for Thanksgiving. Enchanted Learning and Family Fun are great places to start.

Remember that no matter what you decide to do for Thanksgiving, the most important part is getting to spend time with your loved ones. Don't let the economy ruin your Thanksgiving.
