Here is a simple DIY project to build your own Christmas light post to decorate the front yard with. Try placing one light post on either side of the front path, just as you walk up it. When they are installed you can wrap them with red ribbon and finish the look off with a bow!
To Build a Christmas Light Post Decoration For the Yard You Will Need:
PVC Pipe
Christmas lights
Black spray paint
More materials to be discussed
So, if you can find a metal candle lantern to top off the light post, then you will save a ton of time making your Christmas yard light. If not though, you can make one.
So, to make a lantern to sit on the map post you will need 2 square wood plaques. You will also need 4 pieces of wood trim cut to about 12 inches tall. Go ahead and drill a hole in one of the squares of wood. This should be the same diameter as your PVC pipe.
Now, use a nail gun to assemble the lantern. The square with the hole is the bottom, the other top. Each of the pieces of trim are he supports in the middle. Nail gun one piece of trim onto one square so it looks like a mini table.
Now, add the final square on.
Now, take the PVC pipe. Drill a hole in the side about 1 foot up from the bottom. This need to be at least a 1 inch hole.
Now, on to assembling the whole Christmas slight post for the yard. You will need a piece of PVC piping. I like to use a four to five inch pipe to give the Christmas lamp post some depth.
Cut the pipe to about 5 feet tall. Run a bead of epoxy glue on the top of the pipe and press the hole of the lantern into the pipe. Let this dry.
If you are using a pre made metal lantern, then run a bead of epoxy glue on the top edge of the pipe, then match it on the bottom of the lantern. Pres the two together and let dry.
Now, on to the painting. Go ahead and spray a can of primer on the entire Christmas lamp post. The lantern as well. Let this dry.
Now, use a can of hammered metal spray paint in black on the Christmas light lamp post. Once this dries you are ready to ad the lights.
I like to use a string of Christmas lights and ball them up inside the lantern on top of the post. Run the excess of lights down the inside FO the pipe and out the hole you drill about a foot up fro the bottom of the post.
Finally, use some sheets of acetate to mimic the glass in the top of the Christmas lamp post. Use a frosting spray to frost out the acetate. Once it dries use the epoxy glue to glue the sheets of acetate in the windows of the lantern.
Now, stand your Christmas lamp post in the ground. You can stab it into the ground up to the hole you drilled! Decorate with garland and bows.
