How to Build an Electric Motorbike

Brenda Hoffman
Anyone who is really into motorbikes would probably like to know how to build a motorbike. With all of the environmental issues we are facing today, it is a great time to learn to build a motorbike.

In order to build a motorbike you will need a bike frame, 72 V DC motor, batteries, a controller, a contactor, a charger, fuses, socket wrenches, a screwdriver, a wire stripper, welding tools, welding gloves and helmet, paint remover, a spray gun for painting and paint.

Get an old used motorbike frame. There are a lot of different styles of motorbike frames available.

Remove any of the internal-combustion parts that are still within the bike frame you purchased. This includes emptying the gas tank. You will want to cut a hole into the bottom of it once it is empty.

Weld a battery box onto your motorbike's frame. Make sure that the batteries fit tightly into the box but can be easily removed for recharging.

Clean the motorbike frame with rust remover to get all of the rust, dirt and buildup off of it.

Connect the batteries to your motor. Check to make sure that the proper amount of power is flowing between your motor and your batteries.

Use paint remover to get all of the old coats of paint off of the frame of your motorbike.

Paint your motorbike. Use a spray gun to paint your motorbike so as not to miss any spots.

Have your motorbike inspected so that you can get insurance and drive it. This will make it legal to drive on the road and protect all of the hard work, time and money that you invested in building your motorbike.

You should be really proud of your new motorbike. Not only will it save you money on gas but people will soon be asking you to build a motorbike for them too.
