Step 1: Tools - make your way to the hardware store (Home Depot, or Lowe's) and get some supplies that you will need to build your gate. Some of the tools you will need is as follows: a 12ft. 2X6 lumber; 24 ft; 1x6 lumber; screws (wood, metal,); saw; saw horses; tape measure; drill; screwdriver; hinges; latch; paint; and accessories (vines, etc.)
Step 2: Measuring - take out your tape measure and measure the dimension of your gate. For example, 100 inches wide by 96 inches tall. The choice is yours on how wide and tall you want your gate to be.
Step 3: Cutting - take out the saw and the 12ft. of the 2x6 lumber and cut (2) to the inches wide you wanted it to be (100 inches wide). After cutting them lay the two cut 2x6 flat, parallel to one another approximately 36 inches away from each other. The take the 1x6 and cut six pieces to the height you wish (96inches) and gently lay them across the two cut out 2x6 lumber. Make sure the the 1x6 pieces are equal in space. If you need to use a spacing tool that allows you to make sure that your spaces are even.
Step 4: Marking - before you screw the gate together mark where the slats of 1x6 will be going to be placed, this way it will be easy for you to recognize where exactly you are going to screw the slats.
Step 6: Once you screw in the 1x6 to the two cut out 2x6 use another cut out 2x6 and lay it across is diagonal, from the bottom left to the the upper right. This is to add strength to your gate.
Step 7: Hinges - add the hinges and latch that you had bought in the hardware store. Keep in mind that you should be using heavy-duty hinges. Once you have done this make sure that gate is swinging.
Step 8: One all the steps are completed you can go ahead and place the gate onto the ground and make sure it is stable. You can now paint the garden and add the accessories you would like to add to your gate.
The propose of adding accessories is to add curb appeal. To make the gate that protects your garden look beautiful.
