How to Build Healthy Brown Bag Lunches for Your Kids

Jean Bailey Robor
Packing a healthy lunch for your kids isn't difficult; packing a healthy lunch that they'll love often is, until now. Here are a few brown bag lunch ideas to please both you and your child as he heads off to school.

Ultimate Turkey Sandwich, Deli-Style Lunch
You'll need:
2 slices Pepperidge Farm Soft Oatmeal Bread
1 tsp. low-fat mayonnaise
1 slice baby Swiss cheese
3 oz. deli-style sliced turkey

Create a healthy sandwich using the ingredients above. Pair with crunchy veggies such as baby carrots, celery sticks and cucumber slices with a side of Ranch dressing. Add in a carton of low-fat chocolate milk.

Pizza Bread
You'll need:
2 Tbsp. pizza sauce
½ c. shredded low-fat Mozzarella cheese
1 soft bagel

Slice the bagel in two; spread with pizza sauce; top with shredded cheese. Toast lightly, just enough to melt the cheese. After cooling, package in a zip lock sandwich bag. Pair with apple slices. Add in a pouch of Capri Sun in your child's favorite flavor to complete the meal.

Healthy Chicken Tenders
You'll need:
1 boneless skinless chicken breast, grilled
¼ cup honey mustard

Cut grilled chicken breast in bite sized pieces. Add a side of honey mustard as a dipping sauce. Pair with multi-grain Sun Chips and Dasani bottled water.

Peanut Butter Delight
You'll need:
2 slices of white wheat bread
1/3 c. low-fat Peter Pan peanut butter
1 Tbsp. local honey

Mix peanut butter and honey and use as a spread to make a sandwich. Pair with a banana and side of grapes. Finish it off with a carton of skim milk.

Use these delicious and nutritious brown bag lunches as they are or tweak to fit your child's tastes. A healthy diet will go a long way to giving your child the nutrition and energy he needs throughout the school day.
