How to Build a Screened and Covered Sleeping Porch

Shannon Frye
Many people have a deck or a basic porch that they can outside on. They will place patio furniture on the deck and sit out there when they run into a few nice days here and there. With some of the newer houses they are starting to build what is know as Sleeping Porches. These are just like your average deck or porch but with a few extra items. For one, the new porch is completely screened in and in some cases the screen is almost invisible. You are screened in but you do not view the landscape like you are screened in because you cannot see the screen.

One good reason to have a Sleeping Porch is so that you can avoid bugs. Usually when the weather is nice you will have a bug problem. If you live out in the country you can sit outside on your porch and keep all the bugs away. Can you imagine eating dinner outside without having to worry about a fly or two landing in your meal? The screen will keep out many different types of bugs and yet it will also be almost invisible as well.

Another good thing about the Sleeping Porch is that you don't have to come inside when it's raining. The rain will hit the screen and that's as far as it will get. You will also be covered above by a balcony. This way if you happen to fall asleep outside and it starts to rain, you can still sleep out on your porch. Many people will hook up television sets outside and watch television while sitting on their porches.

Nobody has really been able to sleep outside without worry about bugs, animals and rain. If you are on a porch than you will be able to avoid animals all together. You will be able to avoid birds because you will have a screen. You wont have to worry about getting eaten up by mosquitoes as well. You can rest out on your porch without worrying about many different problems.

The main reason for a porch is so that you can go outside and enjoy the weather. With a Sleeping Porch you can enjoy the weather at all times, which is why new houses are being built with these Sleeping Porches. Just because you don't have a brand new home doesn't mean that you can't turn your porch into an area that you can relax and take a nap if necessary. They are not that expensive and they will add value to your home as well.

What was the point of this article? It said "How To..." not "Why you should...".
