Step 1: Download a free program called MacTheRipper (a link is at the bottom of the page).
Step 2: Download a program called Popcorn (Roxio). It costs roughly 50 dollars, but is well worth the money, so you don't have to go buy a new DVD for 12 dollars every time one goes missing.
Once you have these 2 programs and plenty of blank DVD-R or DVD+R available (Black Friday is a great day to get these for free at Circuit City or Best Buy), you are ready to make a back up of your DVD's.
1. Simply insert the DVD into your drive and if a DVD program starts to run, just close it.
2. Open up MacTheRipper. This will then find your disk and load. When the GO! button at the bottom appears, it is finished loading. If you would like to specify where to save the files from the disk, go to the top left corner of your screen where it says MacTheReipper and go to preferences. From there you can alter the file location (create a folder). I often create a Dowload folder on my desktop and create another folder within that called Movies.
Note: the region does not really matter, so all you need to worry about are the simple things like where to upload to and clicking go.
3. Once this is done, click GO! and the uploading will take about an hour. When it is completed, there will be a folder with the title of the movie in the folder you specified earlier.
4. After this, you can open up Popcorn.
5. On the left it will say 'Video Source'. Make sure the VIDEO_TS Folder is selected. Go to your desktop and find the folder that was created for the movie you downloaded. Then drag that folder into the space on the right that says 'Drag folder into this area'.
6. Click the button on the bottom right and it will say insert a blank disk. Insert the disk and click the button and you are done with the hard stuff (or not so hard). Let it burn and the computer will tell you when it is completed.
I wish you all luck, and remember, only copy disks you own or its illegal.
