How Bush is Combining Church and State

Marriage is between two people who love each other and who want to be part of each others' lives for the rest of their lives. This can apply to both heterosexual couples and homosexual couples. Marriage is not defined as the joining of a man and a woman. It is the joining of two souls into one. Two separate lives into one. Why is it wrong, then, for two men or two women to marry? What harm could this possibly do the so-called "sanctity of marriage?"

True, in our history of religious-based government, marriage has been between a man and a woman. This was the way of things for a very long time because no one questioned it. But now that people are questioning this, it has become a problem. Religious fanatics such as President Bush want you to believe that homosexual marriage is wrong; that a man marrying a man will destroy the sanctity of marriage. That two individuals of the same sex marrying will somehow make my marriage to my wife mean nothing. That is grade-A nonsense. How can they argue about the sanctity of marriage being ruined if almost 50% of all marriages end in divorce? Divorce is a sin, is it not? If there was a sanctity to marriage, hasn't it already been tarnished by the failure of so many unions?

Not too long ago there was talk of a Constitutional amendment making homosexual marriage illegal across the country. This seems a little drastic even for religious fanatics. It's one thing for President Bush to force his opinion on all of us, but it's an entirely different thing to outlaw something. When will these people learn that gay people aren't going to hurt you? They are people just like everyone else. They just have a different sexual orientation. That's all. Let them live their lives the way they want just like you live your life the way you want. They deserve that much at least.
