How Busy Families Can Eat Nutritiously

For working families, finding the time, money, and energy to cook a healthy delicious meal is one of the hardest challenges of the day. Supper is an important meal that brings families together after they have been working or attending school. The dinner table is one of the best places to discuss the day's events, tomorrow's concerns, and become a family again: if only for an hour.

Unfortunately finding the time to create a good meal in a short amount of time can be cumbersome, leaving many families to eat on the run, or order in. Options for eating out or ordering in, often lack nutrition and fail to bring families together that bit of time each day to catch up with one another.

Some new businesses have caught onto this wave by offering kitchens to create your own freezer-to-oven meals ahead of time. These businesses make a lot of money off of families who lack time. Two days a month can easily be spent creating healthful dishes ahead of time that will feed your family nutritiously, and in a time efficient manner.

Pick out favorite recipes that not only you and your family enjoy, but ones that can give you ample vegetable servings, along with whole grains, and a balance of nutrition. Invite friends over, and have each of them bring some of the ingredients from all of the favorite recipes you have submitted together. Ahead of time, purchase disposable or freezer/oven ready re-usable 9x13 and other type of baking pans.

Spend just two days a month preparing oven ready meals with your friends, ones that will feed your family for at least two meals if possible, and ones that require minimal prep, and only oven time to be ready to eat. If each of your friends brings ingredients and recipes together to one kitchen, you can go home with 5-10 oven ready dishes that your family can enjoy any night of the week.

Just thinking ahead, enjoying a day with your friends, and preparing meals ahead of time, can save hours of time that can be better spent running errands, working extra hours, or most importantly, spending more time with your families. Create a group of friends that you can commit with to create the oven ready meals two times a month. If you have a core group, it will help you become more efficient, and to stay ahead of the order-in rut.
