How to Buy a Medical Alarm or Alert

EZ Writer
Depending on the type of system you choose and the company you choose as your provider, there are usually only slight differences between a medical alarm and a medical alert. Different carriers have consoles that offer different features, with certain features being more costly than others. The actual process of purchasing a medical system is as simple as buying groceries or any other item. It's the process of narrowing down which carrier and system to choose that can seem overwhelming. These simple steps will break down the best, and smartest, way to buy a medical alarm or alert.

1. Determine if you want to buy a medical alarm or medical alert system. Both are very similar, but have slight differences. Medical alarms are characterized by their console. The console will immediately contact emergency services when you press your emergency button. The console acts as a speakerphone device that will allow you to speak to a 911 operator no matter where you are in the house. A medical alert system usually allows you to program a contact number into the console so that you have the option of speaking to a family member, as opposed to an operator.

2. Research reputable medical alert/alarm systems online. Make a list of all the systems/carriers that fit your needs.

3. Visit the Better Business Bureau website to make sure the companies you're considering haven't had any major complaints made about them or the important services they provide.

3. Visit the websites of the systems you're interested in and keep a running list of how much the equipment and monthly service are so that you can compare each company.

4. Compare the prices of each system, along with their characteristics until you find a medical alarm or alert system that meets your needs and falls into your desired price range.

5. Visit Amazon.com and search the name of the system you're considering purchasing. Read all of the comments and reviews from other consumers so that you can know which systems are more reliable.

Tips:

If you are purchasing a medical alert system for an elderly person in your life, make sure you include them in the research process. Ask the customer service representative the questions they need answered in order for them to feel comfortable with the service.

Warnings:

Always read the fine print on services that require no monthly fee. Often times there are specific guidelines as to who qualifies for free service.
