I was a bit worried at first to purchase blinds online as you can't go to the store and look at the blinds to see exactly how they are made and what the color looks like. Not to worry, though, you can order samples from them. Of course they don't send a whole blind for your examination, but they send a sample that gives you a pretty good idea of how they will work. If you're going to put wood blinds in a kitchen, like I did, you will want to make sure that they look good with your existing cabinetry. It might take a little more time by waiting for your sample, but it's worth it to make sure you're getting what you want.
I also shopped locally and checked out other online companies that sell blinds. I suggest you do the same. This way you will know for sure that you're getting the best deal. Even after I checked the other companies I still chose Select Blinds. They had a great selection and their prices were right.
After you have decided which company you will use for you purchase and which blinds you want, it's time to measure your windows. Decide how you want to mount the blinds. You can either mount them on the inside of the window casing or mount them on the outside of the window to cover the window trim. On Select Blinds' website there is very detailed information on how to measure your windows. If you follow their instructions your blinds will fit perfectly. I chose to mount my blinds on the inside of the window.
Now it's just a matter of making your online purchase. Shipping is free and my blinds arrived much faster than I expected. I can't say how much I loved them when they arrived. They went up almost perfectly. We had a plastic clip that attaches the valance to the blind that we broke. I called the customer service department at Select Blinds and told the representative what the problem was and she shipped me out a replacement quickly and free of charge.
Next time we move I won't hesitate to purchase from them again. I couldn't find wood blinds that were as inexpensive as these blinds anywhere else. So if you're thinking of purchasing blinds and installing them yourself, check out Select Blinds they are a great company to do business with.

Pat, I've always wanted to do this but was hesitant. You make it sound too easy! Thanks for sharing, cheers.
I'd advise measuring your windows so you know in case window sizes are mentioned.
