Tips for Settling Down in the Country of Panama

One of the most popular places in the world to retire is the country of Panama. More and more older folks, including many Americans, are making the move to Panama City when their working days are finished. You may want to know why? Well, the country offers the best in location, weather, and history. In general, it provides the beautiful weather and atmosphere that are ideal to folks who are finally trying to settle down and relax. If you are going to move there, you need to know where and how to buy property, right? In this article, I will discuss the art of buying property in Panama.

Real estate is Panama is somewhat different than that of the United States. In general, the property is broken into three concrete categories. These three categories are government owned property, squatter's property, and then titled property. Generally, the government has control and owns the majority of the remote land such as the jungle areas. Squatters are always happy to move onto this land and occupy it for a while before claiming ownership after a few years. In general, this does not mean that the squatters officially own the land. Titled land is much of the other stuff. It is the land that can be sold and bought and belongs to a person. When heading to Panama, you will be looking for the good, titled land on which to build and live.

In general, most Americans like to settle down in a couple of different spots. There are also other places to live in Panama, but the two most ideal spots are the provinces of Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro. Bocas del Toro is a set of island that offer the Caribbean comfort that most retirees seek. By comparison, some of the towns in Chiriqui are extremely friendly and the province is located not far from Costa Rica.

The country does have some property laws in place, but those are mostly to protect foreign investors. In general, you will be granted similar rights to those who are locals of the country. You can buy and sell property at any time, which is another reason that this country is so popular. If you have done the necessary research, then you can get by with buying property without the help of a lawyer.

The key to buying property in Panama is to find the areas where you like the weather and atmosphere. After that, do your research on pricing and such. This will leave you in need of no lawyer and you can handle the transaction quickly and effectively.
