If you have been searching for a treadmill to buy for any length of time, then you know a good one is not cheap. That means you need to take your time and make a good decision. Here are some things to look for when buying a treadmill at a retail store.

As you may know, you can shop for a new treadmill online or at a sporting goods store. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, but we are looking today at buying from a retail store.

One of the single biggest benefits to shopping for a new machine at a store is that you can see it in person. Not only that, but you can also try it out. (If the store does not let you test it first I would walk away.)

While you try it out you can use the various features it has, look at the belt, motor and drive system. This gives you a firsthand feel of things and allows you to make a much better decision. It is so much better to know upfront that a particular model of treadmill is not what you thought it was before buying it.

Another benefit with buying at a store is that you will, in most cases, be able to get your new treadmill that day instead of waiting for it to be shipped.

The main drawback with retail store buying is the cost. You will pay more than you would online, generally speaking, because you have the store's overhead and salesman's commission. Someone has to pay these costs, and I think we both know who that is going to be.

If you are unsure of the type of model of treadmill you want to purchase, buying from a retail store and trying it out may be your best option. Just expect to pay more than you would online.
