How to Buy a Wedding Dress Online

You can save big bucks by buying your wedding dress online, but it is definitely not for the faint of heart. It goes far beyond just finding the dress and entering a credit card. There is much research that needs to be done or else face the possibility of errors that can threaten what can be the most important day of your life.

Is it worth the hassle?

That depends. By purchasing your wedding and bridal party's dresses all online can save you hundreds of dollars. Is it worth all the time and effort put forth or do you think it might be better to pay a higher price by personally going to a bridal salon?

You'll need to have an idea in your mind of what you're looking for and what kind of budget you're working with. For example, do you want strapless or long sleeved? Do you want a cathedral train, chapel train, or no train?

You'll also need to think about the time of year in which you'll be getting married. The style of your gown should be appropriate for the season.

Once you have these basic ideas in your mind, you're ready to start searching for YOUR wedding dress!

You can start by looking through some bridal magazines and web sites. You might want to tear out or print out anything that you like and keep them in a binder or folder. Don't limit your search to the dress only-keep an eye out for veils, shoes, gloves, and head pieces, too.

The best approach is probably to look for your dress first, then go back and think about all those other accessories. Your accessories need to compliment your wedding dress.

Your goal is to try on as many different styles so that you can see what looks good on you. This could take several weeks. That's okay, take your time and find a dress that makes you look and feel stunning.

Remember that you are in charge. When you are out shopping, don't be intimidated by pushy sales people who might be trying to take advantage of you to make a commission. Unfortunately, there are a lot of wedding dress stores out there that will try to take advantage of you because they believe that you don't know what you're doing.

Before you buy your dress online, find someone who can alter it for you so you're not locked into the place where you bought it. This can save you money. Always buy a dress that is bigger than your present size, they will have plenty to work with. This allows you to buy a dress that you find that is at a good price or is just the one you've dreamed of without worrying about it being gone later.

Research the seller. If you're looking on an online site, read the seller's feedback, make sure they've sold wedding gowns before, and make sure that the recipients of those gowns have been happy with their purchases.

Here's a couple of tips for you:

1) Do some research on the type of dress you are looking for, but DO NOT have your heart set on something very specific.

2) Check online auctions. Even if you do not get your dress this way, it WILL give you a benchmark on price.

3) Set a budget.

4) Have your precise measurements taken from a professional in your area.

5) Be sure that your estimated delivery date will give you plenty of time for alterations.

These terms of agreement can always be found in the "customer terms and conditions" section of your online salons website. READ THEM! Be sure that you know every detail of buying your dress online.

Searching for the perfect wedding dress can be very overwhelming and hectic. Trying to find a dress you love for a price you can afford can be tricky. Do your due diligence when shopping for a wedding dress online and make sure you know every detail of that dress including estimated ship time.

Give yourself plenty of time for delivery. Account for any error and alteration time.
