How to Get Calendar Reminders from Google's Gmail Texted to You on Your Phone

A Guide to Help You Maximize Google Calendar Through SMS Calendar Reminders

So you want to use Google Calendar's SMS reminders, but have no idea how to set it up? Well, you're in luck. This guide was composed as a result of my parents' plea for help in setting up their Google Calendar so they can receive text message reminders of their scheduled Google Calendar events.

First, you need to log in to your Google account. If you don't have one, find someone with one and ask them to send an invite to your email. If you don't know anyone who will give you an invite, send me a message with your email address and I will send you one.

Once you are logged in to your Google account, look around for a button that says"Calendar". It will probably be up on the top of the screen. Click the link that says "Calendar".

When the page loads, you should see something that looks like, well, a calendar. Look up to the top right for the navigational link that says "Settings". Click the link and wait for the settings page to load. Under the words "Calendar Settings", you should now see the words"Mobile Setup" on a tab. Click the "Mobile Setup" tab.

You should now see a series of fields requesting information. First, you must enter your originating country in the drop down menu that asks for your country. Next, you must enter your telephone number into the field which requests your telephone number. Go ahead and hit the "save" button (located near the top of the Mobile settings tab).

Finally, you must request that a verification code be sent to your phone by clicking the"Send Verification Code" button. If you have followed the preceding steps correctly, you should receive a code via text message on your cellular phone. Enter the code into the field on the "Mobile Setup" page that requests the verification code. Once you have verified your phone, save again.

In order to schedule event reminders via SMS, you must also make sure that you program the event to remind you via SMS. The SMS/text message reminder settings are in the"Options" section when you create a new event, and using a dropdown menu, you can choose how long before the event you would like to be reminded by Google Calendar.

I hope this guide has made it clear enough for you to successfully set up your Google Calendar to send you text and SMS reminders of your scheduled events. Google Calendar's SMS reminder feature has been invaluable to me as a scheduling tool, and I hope you find it improves your life as much as it did mine.
