How it Came to Be a Winter Wedding on Skis

Lorraine Yapps Cohen
There was once a young man of renown
Who lived in an East Coast town.
He moved to the West
To discover the best
That the Golden State had long since found.

He gained warmth, good weather, and sun,
Ways for healthy living and fun.
To that, add a job
And an airplane fob
For air sports unlimited, bar none.

Along with the flights over turf
Came a gal straight out of the surf.
She was pretty and nice,
A smile would suffice
To his life adding joy and mirth.

They would say "I do" in a while.
Waiting years, she did, with a smile.
It came to the day
When alas he would say,
"Be mine," he said near rocks in a pile.

The next time a commitment they said
At heights that would spin your head.
In Telluride
It's "to hell you ride"
Unless you're getting married instead!

To make their betrothal in snow
They wanted it specially to go.
So on skis they wed
With a few friends instead
Of crowds at the lodge below.

The first Revelation Bowl winter wedding on skis at Telluride Mountain happened March 26, 2011. It was my son's wedding, and, yes, it was my son's idea. I must have raised him that way.

Great poem and what a way to wed! I give top marks to somebody who puts aside all the frills of a traditional wedding to do something so meaningful as this. Happiness always to the young couple.

What a special thing to establish a new record. I'm sure it was a great day for all family members and friends and especially for the bride and groom. rcj

I recently passed up the opportunity to watch a wedding on tv (and I have no regrets about that). Too bad this one wasn't televised! Congrats to all!
