How to Camouflage a Stained/Peeling Wall and Give Your Windows a New Look

Fix that Peeling Wall and Paint in Your Own Curtains

The appearance of your home says a lot about who you are. This guide is for the creative soul who does not shy away from making a bold statement. Someone who likes the brightening look of sequins, the rich look of jewellery. Someone who wants to put an end to peeling paint. And dress windows in a unique way that does away with the fuss and bother of curtains.

You can use either sequins or old earrings and necklaces or both to decorate your walls. You can paint in your own curtains.

So no more worries about the rains or moisture ruining your walls (acrylic primer is waterproof) and the extra bother and expense of curtains.

What You Will Need to Texture your Wall

  • A big tub of Fevicol or a tub of Acrylic Primer - the white sticky paste some artists use to give extra texture to their paintings.
  • Sequins of different colours and sizes
  • Newspaper to spread on the floor
  • Some cloth to wipe your fingers
  • A mug of water to wash your hands
  • Old discarded earrings and necklaces
  • A palette knife
Method
  1. Look at the furnishings and colour scheme of the room before you decide on the colour of the sequins and/or the old jewellery you will use. Some colours that work well in sequins are:
Chartreuse green and magenta
Magenta and blue
Orange and blue

2.Wipe the walls clean of dust and peeling paint. You can use low grade sandpaper on peeling walls.

3. Spread newspaper at the foot of the wall.

4.. Spread acrylic primer on the walls with a palette knife or your fingers-- much like you butter bread. Or put little bits of fevicol on the sequins/jewellery.

5. Quickly begin to place the sequins on the wall in any pattern and colour combination you like (the primer dries in ten minutes).

6. If you are using fevicol, press the sequin/piece of jewellery into the wall and hold it there for a minute so it sticks properly.

7.Dip your fingers in the mug of water and wipe them clean of primer or fevicol when they become too sticky and the drying primer makes your fingers stiff.

You can cover a wall in half a day or less, depending on how fast you work.

Camouflaging Peeling Walls with Acrylic Primer and Paint

Another method to camouflage a peeling wall is to use acrylic primer and acrylic paint.

What You'll Need

  • Tubs of Acrylic Primer
  • Mug of water
  • Cloth for drying hands
  • Newspaper
  • Cellophane sheets
  • Acrylic paint
  • Containers for the diluted paint

Method

1. Choose the colour of acrylic paint according to the colour scheme of the room.

2. Lay out the newspaper on the floor near the wall

3. Keep a sheet of crushed cellophane paper ready

4. Dilute the acrylic paint in a container (paint dries quickly so be quick and don't dilute too much)

5. Wipe the wall or sandpaper lightly.

3. Spread a thick layer of Acrylic Primer on the wall

4 Cover the crushed cellophane sheet with the slightly diluted paint (consistency should not be too thin or the paint will drip) and press to the wall.

5. Repeat the process on all sections of the wall and take care not to touch the finished section until it dries completely. It will take about half an hour to dry.

Your walls will have a lovely textured look and will be waterproof too.

Paint Your Own Curtains on Windowpanes

Why spend on curtains when you can paint them in yourself? Why go through the bother of cleaning and changing curtains? Acrylic paint looks great on glass. When the sun shines through the painted window, the windowpanes look like stained glass. Beautiful! I painted the window panes in my big bathroom with leaves and flowers to echo the greenery outside. I keep them clean by wiping the dust off them occasionally.

Method

1. Wipe the windowpanes.

2. Cover the floor with newspaper.

3.Mix different shades of acrylic paint in separate containers (don't dilute too much).

4. With a paintbrush, paint the panes with the design you want.

And now stand back and enjoy the creative new look of your home.
