How to Make a Candy Corn Costume

A.S.
Standing during a Halloween party can be a task especially since most people go all out on their costumes. If you are sick of searching for something outrageous or scandalous, fall back on a trusted costume: Candy Corn. The design process is simple, relatively cheap, and a classic look that will be adorable on children or perfect for an adult. Here are step-by-step instructions for making your costume:

**All of these items can be found at general stores with fabric sections such as Wal-Mart**
Supplies:
-Fabric in orange, yellow, and white
-A traffic cone
-Covered electrical wire
-Sewing machine
-Thread
-Dress pattern

Estimated time: 3 hours

Instructions:
(1) Depending on your size (we will use a child for this purpose) pick out fabric in the three main colors: orange, yellow, and white. I bought 3.5 yards of orange cotton fabric, 2.5 yards of yellow, and 2 yards of white. Because it is typically chilly outside a white long-sleeved undershirt and white leggings or tights are recommended as well

(2) Have one of the employees help you find a dress pattern that has a A-shape with a flared bottom. These patterns are quite common and are easy to locate on the Internet as well

(3) Once home, create the bottom part (the skirt) of the dress using orange fabric. To make the bottom of the skirt stay flared, wrap electrical wire around bottom hem and handstitch the piece in so it stays in place. (I have also heard that people have used hoola-hoops as well)

(4) Creat the top of the dress pattern with yellow fabric

(5) Sew these pieces together to create dress

(6) Wrap cone in white fabric to create the headpiece (when the big night comes paint your face white)

(7) If you are feeling really creative, attach little pieces of candy corn to the outfit or create a basket that holds candy corn and give it out to people throughout the night

(8) Your candy corn costume is complete! As I mentioned earlier, pair the outfit with white leggings and an undershirt to keep warm or make a dress with sleeves
